Lyrics
Debbie is currently looking for representation for her newly finished novel, NOTE TO SELF: LOVE
In NOTE TO SELF: LOVE, a down-on-her-luck, New York City actress with an Italian food fetish and cynical wit rediscovers life when her perfectly planned suicide is interrupted by a stranger on the street.
Short Synopsis:
Morgan Miller is a single, thirty-five year old foodie. Although her dream is to act on Broadway, she earns her keep as a waitress in an Italian restaurant. Fed up with her life, the story begins the day she has planned to end it. But not before she devours three slices of pepperoni pizza—guilt free—and has her hair, nails and make-up done. She intends to look fabulous for her final performance.
A businessman passing by sees Morgan fall on a city sidewalk and calls for help. Morgan wakes up in the hospital, or so she thinks. She can hear and see others, but her own words fall on deaf ears. She soon learns why: she’s lying in a coma. When Morgan is visited in this state by a beautiful spirit guide she calls, “Gura”, she finds the sounding board she so desperately craves. Gura is the voice of reason and unconditional love juxtaposed against Morgan’s self-deprecating attitude and dim view of life.
In their spirit forms, Gura leads Morgan on a humorous yet introspective journey through Morgan’s past and present life, served up with a hefty side dish of New York Italian food and culture. Morgan discovers the shocking family secret that dismantled her childhood and self-worth, confronts death again at the hands of the treacherous boyfriend who tracks her down in the hospital, and listens eagerly as the stranger who saved her reveals his own inner demons. With Gura’s help, Morgan learns to forgive, accept and love herself. Ultimately, she must decide if she has the courage and will to live again—for herself, for love, and of course, for pasta!
